The PC is middle aged
You are confusing the PC with 8-track stereo. The PC will continue with modifications until there is something else to replace it. Can you postulate what is stopping the PC? Is it NetPC? or internet browsers? Maybe you think it was a passing fad and everyone will go back to their ten-key adding machines and typewriters.

This is of course very subjective, but I think chips are not near their potential, and this will drive the future of PC's.
