Albright to Discuss Asian Crisis With Silicon Valley Executives

Bloomberg News
October 28, 1998, 11:30 a.m. PT

San Jose, California, Oct. 28 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Secretary
of State Madeleine Albright will meet with more than a dozen
Silicon Valley executives tomorrow to discuss how technology
companies have been affected by the Asian economic crisis.

The meeting will be held at the headquarters of No. 1
networking company Cisco Systems Inc. and be hosted by Cisco
Chief Executive John Chambers, a company spokesman said.

The chief executives of network-software maker Novell Inc.,
chipmaker National Semiconductor Corp. and software makers Adobe
Systems Inc., Intuit Inc. and Autodesk Inc. also will attend.
Oracle Corp., International Business Machines Corp. and Sun
Microsystems Inc. also will send executives to the gathering.

Recessions in Asia have hurt U.S. technology companies
because the region was expected to generate a large portion of
the industry's growth.
