Dangers are: PC might get stolen with the backup HD in it.
Natural disaster or fire might destroy the whole PC.

You allude to a point that is periodically discussed here, the reliability of mechanical devices. All mechanical devices will fail eventually, it may take a minute or hundreds of years, but sooner or later it will happen. Both hard and removable drives are vulnerable. As it has been pointed out, without a removable storage media the failure can be catastrophic. As far as Iomega is concerned the question becomes as issue of life of product before a failure is encountered and quality of manufacture. I do not recall anyone producing documented or verifiable evidence in the past 6 mos. that Iomega's products are any less reliable than other comparable mechanical devices.
