Start-Up Quad Research Tops Major
Computer Companies to Garner Best
of Show Award

Small Stratas(TM) Server Delivers 100 Million
Internet Page Views a Day

RIVERSIDE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 1998-- New Technology Eliminates Web
Hosting Server Farms

Quad Research executives returned Thursday from Atlanta where they accepted the prestigious
Networld+Interop Best of Show award for their Stratas(TM) Web Server.

It prevailed over the other nominee, Compaq Computer, because of its innovative design that
delivers over 100 million Internet page views a day using a small, integrated, rack mounted system.
To give you some perspective on this capability, leading Web Hosting company, Geo Cities, has
only 20 million pages of content.

The Networld+Interop Best of Show competition recognizes the most outstanding new products,
product enhancements and product upgrades unveiled at Networld+Interop '98, held in Atlanta.

Sponsored by Data Communications and LAN Times publications, the Best of Show awards'
program is one of the most highly visible and successful programs in the telecommunications industry.
Entries were evaluated based on innovation, how product advances the art of networking,
importance of product to businesses, and how product compares to competitive offerings of other
carriers.

''Web hosting companies and Internet Service Providers have responded enthusiastically to the
Stratas,'' said Robert Arnon, chief executive officer of Quad Research. ''Some tell us they can pay
for the system just from the savings they get from not having to rent more rack space for the hundred
servers the Stratas eliminates''

The Stratas accomplishes the 100 million page views by combining the fastest systems available
today, the CompactPCI backplane and Fibre Channel hard drives, added dual host adapters and
proprietary ASICs to produce the fastest overall data throughput of any Web hosting server -- over
two gigabits per second.

The Stratas(TM) features two WINTEL fault tolerant and scaleable single board computers
integrated with up to 145 gigs of Fibre Channel storage in a 17-inch tall rack mounted chassis. Quad
Research will market the Stratas(TM) family of servers to select niches in the Internet, media, and
entertainment industries. The Stratas(TM) will compete against servers costing $20,000 to
$300,000.
