Intel Investors - Intel is Investing in @HOME - The Netherlands I guess this is an @HOME away from HOME investment ! Paul {==============================}news.com Intel invests @Home and abroad By Reuters Special to CNET News.com October 28, 1998, 8:00 a.m. PT Intel said today that it will invest $20 million in the Dutch operations of U.S-based @Home Network's subsidiary, @Home Nederland, to provide high-speed cable Internet services. Redwood City, California-based @Home, a provider of high-speed Internet access via cable television wiring, recently formed a joint venture with Dutch cable operators Edon/CasTel and Palet Kabelcom to provide high speed data services in the Netherlands. California-based Intel, the world's largest computer chipmaker, and maker of computer networking and communications equipment, said it is investing in the venture to help speed deployment of broadband services in the region. CasTel's and Palet's combined 1.4 million households, representing more than 20 percent of Dutch homes, the companies said in a joint statement originally released in Amsterdam. Cable operators are expanding the use of the thicker hybrid-fiber coaxial cable, now primarily used to deliver television pictures to homes, in order to provide interactive data services, such as access to the Internet and movies on demand, at greatly increase speeds compared to ordinary telephone lines. "Intel's proposed involvement in @Home Nederland will bring a tremendous boost to our plans to bring state-of-the-art broadband online services to Dutch and Belgian customers," said John O'Farrell, senior vice president of international, @Home Network.
