The question with Energy usually is: What did we give up to get what?

For example, I think Sanyo says it's going to buy some stock in ECD. Which kind? Are they buying a portion of Ovonic? What's the price they're going to pay?

sanyo's electric bicycle patent, awarded two weeks ago

it's been a busy couple of months for sanyo's patent
department. aside from several issued in september, we have:

5828202 oct. 27 battery apparatus
5827494 oct. 27 process for producing non-sintered nickel electrode for alkaline battery

(directly cites ovshinsky's work on improved positive electrodes,
manufactured cheaply with no sintering furnaces.)

and, most interestingly, in time for the holidays:

5819867 oct. 13 electrically powered bicycle

this adds weight to the sly ECD conference call comment that:

(a) sanyo may have a few things themselves to announce
in the next few weeks, in addition to the anxiously awaited
GM EV press releases.

(b) the sanyo/ecd collaboration may provide parts for the
iaccoca/stempel (ebike) projects.

it's such a relief that japan motor inc. can now buy tech from
non-competitors.
