Regarding risky loans, it's my feeling that NTBK does not continue to own most of the loans it makes.

In the leasing case, I think Republic will be the creditor and NTBK the marketer of Republic's lease product.

This is the way it worked with my NTBK mortgage. They made the loan to m e, but the first payment was made to Norwest, who had purchased the loan immediately after its inception.

This gives NTBK fee income without much credit risk. What are the assets listed on the balance sheet? Are they loans to consumers or are they big institutional credits they bought in the marketplace?
