"HOTMETAL 5: FLEXIBLE PAGE BUILDER IS BITTERSWEET"

SoftQuad's latest WYSIWYG editor offers a full set of features, but some familiar speed bumps too.

"...the site styles that HotMetal uses--called decors--aren't very attractive. My wizard-generated site included many of the elements I needed, but had a rudimentary look I wouldn't want representing my company (or significant other). And editing the decors was slow going. You're better off using the predesigned layouts that come with NetObject's Fusion or Microsoft Front Page, which look professional and are a breeze to change.

My main complaint is that HotMetal is slow and sometimes buggy. Menus redraw at a snail's pace, and the program crashed several times while I built my site..."
