This one gets what I call the 'standard' press coverage, average folks are not much interested. I thought the chess computer was a marketing masterstroke, it really caught the public's fancy (the old 'man vs machine' story). My guess is that IBM got many times in publicity what that project cost in dollars.

a lot of Iraqi's would be alive today if we said to Saddam - hey lookie here - we have the 3rd Army over there, the 7th Fleet here, and NATO forces over yonder - now, what cha ya got - plug in the Royal National Guards in there, the Russian built MIGS here, and the number of fanatics there and let the computer figga the outcome. And then we negotiate.

Saddam would have won the negotiations in either case - except he didn't have to get his people killed.
