Thanks, AF. Are you thinking of getting back in? Judging from the steady gains after the intial earnings-related pop, it looks to me like AVID has gained back much of its respect in short order. The turnaround story is intact (under Bill Miller--going back to Dec96) and there is surprise potential in the new product offerings. I expect a floor around $20 and an upside around $30-35 before Jan.

How's EMC treating you?

Bruce

RE: <<No - Avid is not tied to HDTV especially. It does however need to respond to the need to produce
NLEs that work in realtime with HDTV images. As HDTV has significantly more data per frame (is it
16x NTSC ?), that is not a simple task. But it will be done. HDTV will require equipment upgrades
across the board as it gains popularity, which is good for Avid when Avid has HDTV-capable product.

Avid is moving ahead at an astonishing pace. Only 2 or so years ago I was told by engineers at a major network studio in New York that NTSC shows would NEVER air out of a computer in our lifetime. Well, almost every show that I have edited in the last 15 months has gone to air right out of a media composer (after being laid off to tape first of course). And now Avid is heavily into D1 quality uncompressed images. I really think they will figure out the way to Hi Def. And they'll figure it out soon.

Only one editor's opinion......

Glad I FINALLY bought at 12 1/2.
