I'm guessing that Creative Labs will make the announcement, not Gateway. If Gateway will announce when they're shipping and the cards only became available this week, then it may be a week or so before they'd give the go ahead. Right now the Banshee and 3dfx's ability to supply chips is still unproven. Gateway is being very smart in listing a "16 meg AGP" card instead of the Banshee. If there are too many problems with the card, they can substitute TNT or go to an ATI card as soon as one is available.

A Gateway/Creative Labs announcement will be positive in the fact that it will show that 3dfx is able to execute. With all the verbage in the last two cc of setting up the infrastructure to support OEM's, I'm expecting them to execute flawlessly.

IMHO, htye've won a major OEM contract which will result in sales and earnings. An announcement is ok, but results are more important.

Looks like Banshee will at least be an option on Presario 5600's:

compaq.com

ATI Rage Pro standard, with Banshee, V2 and TNT as options.

Gateway announced the TNT as standard in the 450XL yesterday.

Hopefully we'll see the Banshee deal announced within the next week. It would be nice to see a steady stream of news every couple of days leading up to Comdex.
