Actually, Ericsson is talking about a GSM and TDMA handset with a push-to-talk feature.

If I remember correctly, Nextel should have the dual-band (iDEN/GSM) phone in the first half of next year. I vaguely remember reading on one of these boards that Nextel has been signing interconnect agreements with GSM carriers around the country (someone can add to or correct this).

If so, it would be great if the Nextel phone could do dispatch over GSM. However, I don't technically see how that could work given the CURRENT GSM infrastructure (the base computers need to set up the dispatch / Direct Connect). Maybe in the future.
