Dear Stephen,
<<. I think unless the world spirals downward into prolonged depression, mankind has largely lost its appetite for waging physical war.>>

Oh would that it were true. I wish I could believe this but fear you have largely discounted the ideologues whose presence throughout history belies your comment. This from Stratford.com today. (I share your wish but not your belief).

Red Alert

Philippine television has reported that a new Islamic extremist group, known as the Salafiya Fighters, has been formed on Mindanao. The group reportedly has connections to Saudi terrorist financier Osama Bin Laden through his brother-in-law, Mohammad Jamal Khalifa. Of greatest concern is the report that the new group's members are being trained by Malaysian nationals. While we previously warned of the spread of Islamic fundamentalist militancy into Malaysia, evidence that elements within Malaysia are advanced enough to be exporting terrorist instructors is a matter of grave and immediate concern. Businesses and individuals operating in the Philippines and Malaysia should take extra precautions against potential violent attacks in the near future.

Best,
Stitch
