JT; RE:" housewarez " Yes, MIELE is available in the States, Jury - MadameGonzo likes their vacuum cleaners. In the EU, American-style laundry washers and dryers are far superior to the european models, which were designed by idiot male engineers who never had to do a load of laundry. MadameGonzo says her BOSCH dishwasher is better than American models. She also likes the Italian ALESSI stainless-steel flatware a lot; and she bought Bernardaud china and Orrefors crystal. There was a lot of nice, but cheap crystal glasses, etc. coming in from Poland, I recall. Furniture is incredibly expensive in France - really obscene prices. MadameGonzo bought German-designed furniture from a shop in Amsterdam, and it was made to her specifications somewhere in northern Italy and delivered to our flat in Paris. Before the EU, the shopkeeper said, it would have been virtually impossible for us to cross so many borders to buy things like this. She also bought some Italian modern-style furniture. But in Paris, all we could afford were the antique tables that we bought at the big "flea market" outside of Paris. There are some absolutely beautiful art-deco furniture pieces in Paris, but they are quite expensive. Some of my friends in Norway bought Spanish furniture and had it shipped up there. KRUPS and BRAUN sell a lot of appliances in the States, especially coffee-makers. All our televisions and VCRs are Japanese. Most all Hi-Fi equipment is Japanese, too (or Korean, etc.) There is almost no penetration by the EU in consumer electronics save ERICY and NOK.A handi phones. What kinds of housewarez do you and K use, Jurgen ? -Steve
