Integrated Control Center Debuts at ITC

Exigent subsidary Software Technology, Inc. (STI) today announced the introduction of the STI Integrated Control Center . This important new "commercial off-the-shelf" (COTS) satellite industry product has been in development by STI engineers for more than a year.

A study this month by industry-watchers Frost & Sullivan of Mountain View, California, shows that the target market for just the software component of the Integrated Control Center is expected to rise from $99 M to $123 M per year during the period from 1999 through 2001. When hardware sales are included in the mix, the numbers rise dramatically from $433 M to $608 M for the same period.

Firmly based in the proven technology of OS/COMET, STI's extremely successful command and control environment, the Integrated Control Center is a versatile, extensible, and scalable suite of services and equipment that combines industry-leading hardware and software products into a single universal solution. The ICC can be used "out of the box" in its standard form, and yet is highly customizable for special customer applications.

The purpose of the ICC is to provide seamless software reuse and automation across the whole mission life-cycle, from early mission planning and modeling, through vehicle testing, all the way to on-orbit spacecraft management. The ICC is designed to handle projects ranging from single satellites to the very largest of constellations.

The Integrated Control Center merges the capabilities of the satellite industry's most expert vendors, bridging the gaps between them with custom software, while the whole system is supervised by OS/COMET.

Suppliers currently providing important elements to the ICC include:

Analytical Graphics, Inc.
Satellite Tool Kit - "STK"
Gensym Corp.
Intelligent development environment - "G2"
Pacific-Sierra Research, Inc.
Generic Resource, Event, & Activity Scheduler - "GREAS"
Science Systems plc
Universal Intelligent Tool Kit - "UniT"
Software Technology's Integrated Control Center will be demonstrated to the industry public at the International Telemetry Conference, which will be held from October 27 through October 29 in San Diego, California. Visit us at Booth #805 to see the ICC in action, or to discuss the incorporation of your world-class COTS application into this powerful product.

And still more....

Exigent today announced that a powerful new Wide Area Network (WAN), linking Exigent International sites throughout the United States is now operational. The network connects corporate headquarters in Melbourne, Florida with other Exigent sites in Alexandria, Virginia, LaPlata, Maryland, Aurora and Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Mesa, Arizona.

Dr. Francis Cirillo, Manager of Information Systems said, "The Exigent WAN consists of fractional T-1 lines, allowing extremely large quantities of data to be reliably transferred between all sites. Necessary redundancy is accomplished with Private Virtual Circuits (PVCs) in Melbourne and Alexandria, connected to all other sites. The WAN will be used for voice and video traffic, E-mail, and Internet connectivity. The next WAN site to be implemented will be a new Company facility in Chantilly, Virginia."

The benefits of Wide Area Networking include secure data communications and the reliable transfer of files that are too large for conventional E-mail. These features will permit real-time interaction of project engineering teams that might be located at several sites around the country, thus allowing extra time for fine-tuning and management review of such work products as proposals.

Voice-transmission capabilities of the new network will save Exigent an estimated 30% on long-distance charges by permitting intra-corporate dialing over the network rather than conventional telephone lines.

Fototag also has news....

Fototag to Participate in SITA CUBES Initiative

Executives of Exigent subsidiary Fototag, Inc. showed the latest version of the FotoTag® system at two major commercial aviation industry conferences during the month of October, 1998.

Fototag staged a well-received demonstration of the FotoTag passenger/baggage reconciliation system at the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, International Air Transport Association (IATA) conference "Passenger Services 98", before a large audience of aviation industry professionals from around the world. This international conference gives the participants a forum to discuss and agree on standards for E-Ticketing, positive passenger boarding, and baggage handling. The FotoTag system addresses all of these functions.

Airlines and airports around the world have committed to a significant increase in passenger and baggage management automation. In a recent IATA study, the passenger traffic volume in every major market was predicted to increase steadily over the next five years. Fototag managers believe that the potential annual market for company products could exceed $15 M by 2005.

At a related industry conference of the Aeronautical Telecommunications Society in Orlando, Florida, Fototag, Inc. was invited to participate on the steering committee for the SITA "CUBES" initiative.

SITA CUBES stands for "Societé Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques - Common-Use Baggage Enterprise System".
