Remember Starr had just gotten great plaudits for his handling of the Packwood diaries. Only when Starr started getting results did you see the WH defamation campaign build to destroy Starr. That's classic Clintonian practice when they are threatened with exposure by the truth. And as we know, if the Clintons and cronies deny it, it usually proves true.

Since the ad hominem is about the only legal manner in which to do this, sane individuals employ it against leftists. It is impossible to calmly reason with people who virtually beg to be lied to for months and months on end, and who then claim to respect such a liar: >For the millionth time, I dont think lying about the affair he had with a legal adult is any big deal. In fact, in some ways, I respect him for it.< (The words of an infamous leftist in these parts) So while it is incontrovertible fact that the ad hominem technique itself is leftist in origin, sane individuals realize they have no other choice but to use it when dealing with leftists.
