Actually, the short position may be significantly different today than it was when short interest was last measured. I don't recall a date on the VLNC short interest figures. They may have covered a significant portion of the Short interest. That could explain the flurry of buying, perhaps the breakout through 5 triggered a wave of covering, who knows. I can't believe that the shorts would keep shorting all the way up- they could get crucified in a stock like this...
