George,

I have what may be an ignorant question. In a lot of movies lately I see people talking on cell phones in places that seem unlikely, like subways, inside of caves, on submarines, inside of cement buildings, etc. Is this creative license or is it actually possible?

TIA, Mark

By adopting the reviled CDMA as the next generation of GSM, Europe has already acknowledged the defeat of their standard. Now they are just belatedly maneuvering for position in the CDMA world. Because GSM is the globally dominant digital standard, the Europeans have alot of money and momentum to trade for intellectual property held by Qualcomm. Both sides will have to deal.
