I do agree, obviously, and I hope it's not the "I-word" giving this pop, because pop precedes burst. A few minutes ago, every component of NAV was up or flat, and SFE was down. That's a good sign, and I will close my short in the range you suggest, and then I will consider buying long.

It could also be the earnings release, still, but that is absurd also because when this quarter rolls off and the P/E zooms back up instantly, or Q3 '99 compared to Q3 '98 looks like a 90% decrease in earnings, then what are people going to do? Does Safeguard plan a major merger/acquisition for every quarter from now on? CMPC, USDC, CATP, ...

What I really want is to have a nice, stable position in SFE that grows modestly, while accumulating great companies at a steady rate through offerings and watching them grow. All while hanging out and not having to pay too close attention. This stock and market is making me have to do way too much work for the rewards. And it doesn't care what I want.
