Gary, I'm better informed on IP telephony, thanks to you and others on this thread. Sorry I overlooked important details in your previous posts -- as in mid-stream use of switched networks and in CSCO's and others' voice-packet ID capabilities. Thanks again.

...then real time traffic will be migrated in even a more major way to IP backbones. This will be the end of circuit switching ...

If this be the case, what will become of the Bells, T and LU? I worry in particular about LU getting into CSCO's turf. Also, switched networks represent a tremendous investment, and I can't quite phantom their owners turning their backs and walking away from this huge investment. Don't you think LU will find a way to salvage switched networks (and the large infrastructure that does metering, billing, information 411, 800, etc., etc.) into some form of integrated switched/IP network, or is this entirely illogical as a long term solution?

I take it that you would recommend QWST as an investment (I already own some)?

Tulvio

Gary,

Can you expand a bit on your thoughts regarding video etc. to the home PC in perhaps less technical terms. I am quite interested but am having a bit of trouble following due to my complete lack of expertise in the area. I guess where I am heading is trying to figure out the the what my home PC can do as a result of what you are saying. New capabilities. And possible timing. Perhaps this is not directly related to Cisco investment concerns..

Thanks.
