Can somebody refresh my memory in regard to a comment made about the personal computer business going south. For some reason I thought it was made by IBM's CEO AND it was said within a week of HWP's CEO forecasting terrible sales in late 1999 early 2000.

If it was IBM then why are they introducing a sub $600 machine?

"IBM To Be First Major PC Maker To Sell $599 Machine"

Since Dell has not shown any interest in this price category it shouldn't have an impact on their marketing plans. I'm just curious if I have accurate information.

Thanks,
T.R.

Actually I was surprised that it took them this long to come out with one (unless they have had it for a while). It makes perfect sense; in fact I would have thought that they would apply 1% (or whatever) of purchases made with the card towards the price of a DELL computer.
