SYQUEST: SyQuest unveils SparQ USB, SyQuest SCSI 1 Gigabyte drives

OCT 29, 1998, M2 Communications - SyQuest Technology (NASDAQ: SYQT) have unveiled the SyQuest SCSI (small computer system interface) 1 Gigabyte drive. The company also announced that the SparQ USB 1 Gigabyte drive, previewed with the Apple iMac during Macworld Expo in the US, will ship in November. The addition of the SyQuest SCSI and SparQ USB gives the company a complete line of one gigabyte cartridge hard drives, compatible with major computing platforms and SparQ cartridges that are interchangeable across the entire line of SyQuest one gigabyte drives.

"IDC research shows that demand is definitely moving toward a gigabyte as the minimum capacity point for storage peripherals. It also will be valuable for companies to have a system that works across the entire computing environment and for professionals working from their home who need to share files with colleagues and friends -- regardless of what system they use," Bob Amatruda, senior analyst, International Data Corporation, said. "By introducing a family of drives that offers cross platform compatibility, SyQuest is positioning itself to become the standard in the gigabyte category."

With the SyQuest SCSI and SparQ USB drive introductions, SyQuest has brought its award-winning one gigabyte product design to the Mac platform, providing an affordable, high capacity solution for the Mac community. The new translucent red SyQuest SCSI and SparQ USB drives also utilise SyQuest's patented, sealed drive door design and micro particle filters to create a contaminant-free environment for the drive media. A significant advantage over competitive drive construction, this exclusive design offers investment protection to users through stable product performance and overall drive and cartridge reliability.

SyQuest SCSI Drive -- Ideal for Creative Professionals SyQuest's Ultra SCSI interface gives creative and technical professionals the high performance and flexibility they need. Professionals car. work on both Mac and PC systems for the same project because the SparQ cartridges are interchangeable across the company's whole line of one gigabyte drives.

The SyQuest SCSI allows graphic artists an A production personnel to load client projects on an individual cartridge, run those programs off the drive, and then easily exchange and distribute files. Studio musicians can edit, mix and record in real time. SyQuest SCSI's high speed bandwidth is also an affordable solution for film production houses that can capture and edit video clips online and also send out work in progress.

SparQ USB Drive -- The Perfect Peripheral for iMac and PC Owners with USB A perfect peripheral for use alongside the new Apple iMac system, the SparQ USB provides iMac users with unlimited storage capacity to access and perform downloads from the Internet, run multimedia applications, educational programs and games. Since the iMac's radical design does not include a floppy drive, friends, students and colleagues using iMacs can back up, transfer and share files simply by sharing SparQ cartridges. SyQuest SCSI and SparQ USB drives will be compatible with both Mac and Windows-based systems. SparQ one gigabyte cartridges work interchangeably with all SparQ drives as well as the SyQuest SCSI 1 Gigabyte model.
