Intel is in the cpu business=>they want to sell more cpu's. They won't be able to unless people need FASTER cpu's. Fast cpu's are no good unless the rest of the computer can keep up. They're just trying to keep the technology-creates-demand cycle alive. They've got their sites set on cpu-intensive multimedia (e.g. chrome). I think they feel if Rambus doesn't get adopted quick, then it could be a long wait for memory to get up to speed, during which intervening years a lot of money could go unmade, and this or that dynasty could founder...
