I think that you may not understand that both shorts and longs are on the same side here. We both want the stock to go up. I would be thrilled with a price of 9. At that price I would have doubled my present short position. What shorts live in fear of is not the price, which has always been our friend. It is a change in the underlying economics of the business. If you want to see a REAL, shocked silence here, watch what happens if Zitel/Matridigm ever posts significant profits in the Datametrics division.
