CDMA exceeds TDMA in number of worldwide subscribers

The global total of mobile telephone users subscribing to CDMA (code
division multiple access) services surpassed the number of subscribers
for TDMA (time division multiple access) phones, according to a report
disclosed by CDMA Development Group (CDG).

On the CDG report, global subscriptions of the CDMA phones passed the
16 million mark in September with projections of 19 million by
year-end.

On the other hand, the sum of TDMA phone subscribers came to 13.88
million in September, according to TDMA Universal Wireless
Communication Consortium. The figure is projected to hit 18.5 million
by the end of the year.

Korea, where CDMA digital mobile phone services were first
commercialized, represents about 70 percent of the total subscribers
with 11 million users.
