Jon,

Funny you mention Grants. A friend of mine has been suggesting I subscribe and has been sending me some of his stuff, and I've seen him on the tube. No question that he and Fleck have been way too negative on the mkts regardless of how correct they've been or are on what's going on beneath the surface. I guess everyone's learned to ignore Alan Abelson by now too. I keep reading though because I need the perspective and suspect that sooner or later these guys will be right, if even for brief periods, and I would hate to be drowned by the rising tide of momentum/optimism which is why I tend to post these bearish views after big up days.

As for being disappointed on an intellectual level, the short to intermediate term behavior of the mkts seems to have much more to do with the "rules" of the game than any understanding of anything else.Look at the recent rally in semiconductor equipment co's, an example of what happens when two popular investment styles, value and momentum, meet. Are things picking up for equip suppliers? Who gives a damn?
