I just attended a talk by Marcus Nolan at the Milken Institute. His work in Japan, Korea and Taiwan and other Asian countries show that a recovery by March 2000 is highly unlikely.

The popular March 2000 estimate is extrapolated back from the fact that equity markets there have recovered somewhat from their lows. There are more compelling reasons to believe this recovery in equity prices is premature.
