Jim - it's a long story, but in short, 56K isn't really 56K. Throughput wise, it is an improvement over 33, but in many cases, depending on your ISP and your phone line, you won't be able to get real 56K connectivity, and the difference in cost may not be worth it. I would recommend you contact your ISP and find out what modems they feel are compatible, then ask your retailer to let you test one or if they will offer a return/trade down to the 33 if you don't get at least 41K+ out of the 56 unit routinely.
