I think someone answered this question before but I can't seem to find it:
I need a utility to manage my trading layout, especially to resize and arrange multiple Explorer windows.
It's a real pain to have to move and resize 6 or 7 windows every time I start explorer, especially when it insists on opening all new windows across both monitors.

In Win Q500 cooling...

Although on the invoice as including a 2nd fan, the only way I can get to 2 fans is to include the power supply fan. Perhaps this is normal industry counting - like counting from zero.<g> As shipped, I find the powersupply fan blows in (sucks air in thru the back PS vent and into the case) and the front fan was positioned to blow in also. As I proceed, I have removed the covers from my two "production" machines and I find:

P5-90/180 Socket5: Powersupply blows out. Low front fan blows out.
P5166 Socket7: Powersupply fan only! blows in! Yikes!

Dr. Shok recommends front fans suck in and back fans (incl power supply) blow out.

He also advocates duct-taping all non-powered vents. Hmmm. Are there any alternate schools of thought out there?

I am considering taking the new power supply apart so as to direct air out (flip the fan over) as the PS is one of the biggest heat sources. (Right?) I am also thinking of stopping by Radio Shack for several fans - the connector setup will be interesting. Wonder if BestBuy offer better fans and/or prices.

On the other hand (yes I have had some economics classes <g>) from an engineering point of view, I would expect higher pressure air to cool better than lower pressure air. So if all fans blew in, the inside air would be at a slightly higher pressure (and slightly denser and therefore a better coolant) than outside air and in a decently vented case would exit somewhere.

Well. Don't want to dis-assemble a perfectly new power supply (had to ground pin14 to get PS to activate w/o mobo plugged in) - it is less than clear that I would be able to open that box and the fan is IN the box. Perhaps adding a 2nd (3rd?) fan to the top of the Q500 positioned to blow out the upper back vents leaving the lower fan to blow in cool air across the MB/cards and exit either via side vents or the upper back vent would be worthwhile.

As I am planning to OC the Celeron 300a, I am assuming no such thing as too much cooling. I'll at least get the 3rd fan. Flipping the front fan is no big deal (I've done it twice so far), but the flipping the PS fan could be a PIA. Any thoughts?

Paul

Edit: flipping the PS fan IS doable...
