Allen,

The reviewer probably read the following:

Unofficial Buz FAQ

trix.com

>>The first release of VideoWave SE is specifically limited to a MJPEG bandwidth of 100k/frame. The Buz can do up to 200k/frame, but was limited in the VideoWave SE software. Any other program will use the "normal" windows codec interface and offer rates up to 200k/frame. The retail version of VideoWave is not limited in this way. (The 100k/frame limit in VideoWave SE is purely a marketing maneuver. It is the fastest rate supported by the Jazz drive, so anything faster would make Jazz look bad.)

NOTE: In the most recent shipping versions of Buz, the VideoWave SE is not limited to 100k/frame, and can reach the full 200k/frame. This restriction was apparently removed with the introduction of Iomega's faster Jaz 2G drive.<<

This strikes me as curious since I don't think that Jaz2 is 2 times faster than Jaz1. Nevertheless, I can't imagine any other explanation.

Btw, by reading a few posts at rec.video.desktop, it was apparent that many people regarded Buz as a very capable video capture card, considering the price of $199, though customer support seemed universally regarded as inadequate - though the same was said about Pinnacle (Miro DC30+; $899).

P.S. Somebody on the newsgroup was advertising for sale a Buz for $85 - a great deal, if for only to get the Ultra SCSI card.
