Grant: I gotta tell ya, I thik that article is a joke. I don't believe cellular service companies ever gave away a $300 phone. Perhaps a cheapo $59 phone but then the serivce contract is like 2 yrs at $25/mon or... $600 for the 2 yrs service. ISP's on avg charge $20/month. What may happen is the rebirth of the NC for ISP's. Slow cpu's since the modem is the bottleneck and small disk drives, perhaps JavaOS as the operating system. Just as in the diskless market those cpu's boot off the nextwork, the ISP machine could download the necessary Java objects from the ISP. I could see $100 rebates but not whole machines, certainly not current or even recent scalable machines. -Walt

Don't hold your breath waiting for free a DELL PC.<g>
A similar type story aka 'expert study or opinion or research' was circulated a while ago,I think it was last year and you don't see the prediction coming true yet,the closest we got was CPQ giving away a free monitor to get rid of the excess fat.
