CORRECTION - Newmont Mining sees lower '99 spending
Friday October 30, 2:00 pm Eastern Time

In October 29 DENVER story headlined ''Newmont Mining (NYSE:NEM - news) sees '99 capital spending up,'' please read in first paragraph ...Newmont Mining Corp.'s capital spending should decline to $250 million in 1999 from $400 million this year..., instead of ...Newmont Mining Corp.'s total capital spending should rise to about $250 million in 1999 from $225 million this year... (company corrects 1998 figure to include spending for Batu Hijau project; capital spending on property, plant and mine development will be about $225 million this year).

Please insert the following as second paragraph: Capital spending on additions to property, plant and mine development will total about $225 million this year, a company spokesman said.
