OT -- On Hunters and Hunting

This is another one of those things (like TA) that I've changed my mind about with time. When I was younger, I despised hunting for my love of nature and life (I did like target practice though). However, I've come to believe that in societies such as north America where the people are ridiculously removed from nature, hunting does more good than harm. To begin with, if I was the animal, I'd much rather live in the wilderness free and die at the hands of a preditore (which would be my destiny regardless if the hunter is human or animal) than to be held captive in narrow confinement (so I get fat) and be fed all sorts of hormones and unnatural feed and then helplessly get slaughtered after a pathetic life. Secondly, most hunters I know have a greater respect for nature and wild life than their microwave dinner eating cousins. Unless you are a strict vegetarian, I don't think you can blame the hunters.

Having said that, I have nothing but contempt for those hunters who think they have the god given right to blow away every piece of life form that comes their way for fun or have no respect for the animals and the balance of nature.

P.S. I've been making an effort to be more of a vegetarian than carnivore.
