"Through the Digital acquisition, Compaq has inherited an agreement to purchase approximately $1 billion worth of networking equipment from Cabletron for eventual resale. 'They want to offer customers a complete solution,' said another dealer. 'They want to take on Cisco.'" From an article about Compaq: news.com This is old news of course; although I'm not sure I can swallow the part about Compaq wanting to take on Cisco. A billion in equipment over several years from CS is a small fraction of what CSCO sells.
