At the time it seemed the thing to do? Management believed
the stock was underpriced and expected it to continue to
move up.

My answer is they needed the stock for their executive and sales force options plan. They had no idea the stock was going to be dumped. So they probably knew they could pay it back as they forcasted within a year expecting the value only to go higher as each qtr. got better and better. So see the market has its own way of F$%^&^% up a plan. Sure screwed mine up.
