Nothing about compaq ..... here is recent news.

COMPUTER ASSOCIATES BUYS VISUAL SOFTWARE COMPANIES

ISLANDIA, N.Y. (Reuters) - Computer Associates International Inc. (NYSE:CA - news) said Thursday it has acquired Viewpoint DataLabs International Inc. and 3Name3D, two privately held makers of three-dimensional image software.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Viewpoint is leader in the field of three-dimensional computer content creation and publishing software put to work by, among others, leading Hollywood filmmakers to create cutting-edge special effects.

Viewpoint's technology was used by Pacific Data Images, creators of the recent Hollywood feature film ''ANTZ,'' and by Centropolis on ''Godzilla.''

3Name3D will provide key technical, multimedia and creative expertise to CA software developers. CA took an equity stake in 3Name3D in April 1997. Based on the success of that investment, CA opted to acquire 3Name3D fully, Computer Assoicates said.

Computer Associates said Marina del Rey, Calif.-based 3Name3D will become part of a new CA Viewpoint subsidiary.

Computer Associates said it plans to use Viewpoint's technology to bolster the capabilities of its Unicenter TNG and Jasmine database products by adding sophisticated 3D technology.

Unicenter enables organizations to manage remotely far-flung computer systems -- from mainframes to desktop PCs to pagers. Jasmine is CA's visually oriented database management system.

With its rapidly growing library of thousands of 3D digital objects and artistic 2D rendering technology, Viewpoint is helping to fuel the expansion of three-dimensional software into mainstream markets and businesses, CA said.

Viewpoint serves more than 5,000 customers in entertainment, visual simulation, corporate communications, computer-based training and advertising.
