Why ALA Steve and not host of other battered stocks that went up today? A suggestion: Enough posting of articles and guesses regarding why a stock is up or down a point on a given day. How about we try something novel- as a team- let's try to value this sucker! -- figure out what its worth -- project earnings, analyze their debt burden, try to figure out how much their tangible and intangible assets are worth, and, more broadly, its strategic objectives and positioning in the competitive landscape? What do you guys think? Warning: If that's to hard you should be playing at the casino, not investing in the market.

Steve: Tax Selling

October 31 is the last day mutual fund mangers have to sell for tax purposes. The source of my knowledge is hearing this discussed on CNBC. I don't know if this is IRS or SEC driven but I assume it only applies to U.S. Mutual Funds. If anyone knows more, please jump right in here.

Walter C.

PS: Of course, this wouldn't influence tax selling by others--such as U.S.individuals--who would have until year's end.
Also, I know nothing about the rules or possible effects of tax selling by-for example-French individuals or companies. This could be important if the price of Alcatel is, in balance, decided in Paris at the Paris exchange.
