now that you mention it, I do recall this story. My understanding of the per-processor scheme was that all of a given model of machine had to have the OS installed, then the vendor paid royalty based on how many of that model was made. This was certainly a simple scheme from a tracking standpoint but just as clearly it disadvantaged other SW vendors.

I will be interested to see if actual evidence of a price differential appears in the caldera suit comes out. thanks for refreshing my memory.
