Maurice, I would agree with the hypothesis that PC purchases will die out in 2001 but I've heard it all before. More likely, advancing technology will provide new reasons to buy bigger and faster PCs.

Imagine a salesperson sitting in front of a small-footprint 19". ACT! 2001 beeps that it is time to call Serge in Norway. With one click, the connection is made and Serge's ugly face populates the display. "Serge, that 350-page proposal you asked for is on its way via our new ADSL lines. Don't go away ... you'll have it in just a minute. ..."

New displays, video cards, hi-res color CCDs, faster CPUs, gobs of RAM, recordable DVD arrays, terrabyte disk racks, multiple servers, ADSL/cable MODEMs -- lot's of new goodies for "enabling technologies".

If anyone thought Bill Gates was dumb when he killed "good 'ol DOS" they didn't understand the economics of obsolescence that drives this industry.

Craig

PS Since I usually post over at NSM and not here, congratulations to all AMD shareholders for owning a "stock on a rocket!"
