I notice that ML is also bearish on INTC....it's interesting that INTC hasn't broken out........a sign of things to come?

The easy answer is that ML has morals and won't try to sucker the small retail investor
into this pyramid scheme, unlike MSDW and the rest..

OC,

I can speculate only as to why ML is not hyping the nets except they do like AOL.

The net is somewhat of a threat to ML. ML is trying to do business as usual and exclude the net. A good example, is ML does not have a site online for trading. One can do research, check account balances, etc. but not trade. ML has no plans to place a trading site online.

Secondly, most of the firms the ML underwrite are more traditional brick and mortar firms. They have buy recommendations on BKS and BGP. Also, they have underwritten some very large manufacturing firms.

I could not say if ML's view is slanted or the view of MSDW is slanted or there is an in between which is the most likely.

I make my decisions based on what conclusions my mind develops. The problem is the market reacts to sellside analysts both up and down. We see it daily and not just with the nets. An upgrade of a firm raises the price and a downgrade decreases the price. These brokerage firms have a lot of power to move the share price.

I must invest and trade within this environment and also keep an open mind. It am still of the opinion that AMZN will fail in the long term. This is a minority among the analysts. It seems clear that AMZN will enter videos for the holiday season. That is likely why they bought The Internet Movie Database. My concern near term being short, is that an announcement of videos could drive the price up twenty points.

I enjoy most of the time, being involved with AMZN. The varying opinions on its future are so different compared to most other firms. I may be wise to completely box my short shares and ride out the fall until more can be seen in this tunnel.

Glenn
