Welcome back to one of the most interesting people ever to grace the SUNW thread.

It's ........... Addi !

seriously, welcome back. we missed your posts. I hope you stay awhile..

Do you suggest taking profits now, and then bying back at less than 50 or so ?

I think it will hit 60 or more eventually, but after being ignored for so long, it might be a bit dangerous to sell now, as it might get away and away due to changing wall street perceptions.

What do you think ??

Take care
Jean

Addi-Great to have you back. I learned a great deal from your earlier posts and especially from your exchanges with Twister. Convinced by your reasoning I have been steadily adding to my Sun positions with each pullback. The one point at which I didn't follow you was when you sold most of your position. In any case, welcome back!

Sun just released a set of Java based speech recognition APIs and in my view that is going to cause a whole set of brand new startup and entrepreneurial companies. I think we will have a similar situation we had back in 95 when entrepreneurial spirit started to take over Silicon valley causing a new era for Sun Microsystems and its internet computing model. The next era for Sun and next generation entrepreneurs will be in voice and speech recognition (at least
this is something I am very much excited about and see as the evolution in internet computing).

Hi Addi- How's that baby doing? Sleeping through the overseas markets yet? :)

I'm dumping my trick-or-treat bag out here...

Here's a link to the Java speech API page. Indeed it would appear to have a connection to 'killer applet' written (or spoken) all over it.

Here's a roster of current Kleiner Perkins Java Fund companies for anyone interested.

On a related note, here's a nice Jini intro page with a link to the Jini Home page (and mail list) at the bottom.
sun.com

I discovered THIS little item tonight. O'Reilly is reporting a dramatic 3x surge in Unix book sales.

And here is Sun gloating in it's timeliness.

Lastly, it appears perhaps that IBM is on the verge of bringing it's Lotus 'productivity' SmartSuite into OpenSource which would seem (along with Corel's recent direction with WP8) to have obvious implications for desktop Solaris, at least until higher bandwidth can provide something more server-centric (WebTop) for the masses.

Might you have your MOM running Solaris next year?

Addi, nice to see you back in the sunshine. Both LSI and Sun rising.
I just read an article that reminded me of one of your predictions concerning Sun and Microsoft. It went something like both Microsoft and Sun would make money, but Microsoft would in effect become a subsidiary of Sun. This announcement by Cisco kind of reminded me of this:

zdnet.com

Cisco, Novell lead Microsoft in
directory services race

By Scott Berinato, PC Week Online
October 26, 1998 9:00 AM ET

Solaris is making inroads as a key platform
for directory services, thanks to several new
developments that will bring broad directory
support to the Unix operating system.

Cisco Systems Inc. is developing a Solaris
version of Microsoft Corp.'s Active Directory
that, ironically, could beat Microsoft's own
release of the directory out the door.

Cisco could ship as early as February its
CNS/AD (Cisco Networking Services for
Active Directory), sources close to the
company said. Cisco has exclusive rights to
Active Directory code for developing the
technology on Solaris.

Addi, do you think it is time for the PE of Sun to go into the thirty range?

All the best,
Michael
