HP's 'all-channels' plan -- Everyone Gets Shot At Segmented Markets
Computer Reseller News - November 02, 1998, Issue: 814

New York -- In the fiercely competitive networking industry, two
bitter rivals are revamping their approach to partner training.

3Com Corp. has set its sights on developing a program equal in stature
to Cisco Systems Inc.'s Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification,
while Cisco has decided to adjust CCIE to be more inclusive.

ALL:

I forget who it was that was talking to me about how uspply constrained isn't a good thing: Well:

A new plant has been opened!!!!!!!!!! ;-)
biz.yahoo.com

please note:

Located in Changi Industrial North and occupying 27,870 square meters (330,000 square feet) of floor space, the plant will manufacture a wide range of 3Com products such as EtherLink(R) network interface cards, award-winning U.S. Robotics(R) modems, SuperStack(R) hubs, other desktop and LAN switching products...

These are the things that I have personally verified to be in short supply. SO going forward it would appear that COMS is set to balance supply and demand.

See, you folks just need a little faith <VBG>
