all- USB Speaker
Today I came across an ad about a Philips USB speaker system (DSS370). To my surprise they stated that their speakers don't need a soundcard anymore. I must admit, that so far I just didn't care about USB and I really have no idea how it works on a system level. I only know that it is a sort of new high speed bus system for various peripheral devices. My question now is, how does an USB Speaker system affect the system performance. I did a quick research on the net and this topic is being discussed quite controversial. Some ppl say it would slow down the pc others say the system runs even faster (in case you use a Philips USB system). From the Intel site I learned that there are combined PCI/USB controllers.
How does the CPU come into play. Has anybody done some benchmarking with and without USB speakers? I know that I don't need a soundcard but wouldn't it be favourable to use one to reduce the CPU load, or this nonsense?!?!?
