I fought the temptation to jump in here but couldn't stay out. I think that doctors get the bad rap for the high costs of medical care because people see them making a lot of money. However, doctor's salaries aren't the reason health care costs so much. Do I think that doctor's should be paid 200K/year? Well, I can't name too many other professions in which you have as much responsibility as a physician. A typical anesthesiologist has the lives of 4-5 people in his hands in any given day. Every day. And how many other professions are there in which you have to get up in the middle of the night and perform a task perfectly and do it so every time or else someone dies? I think that if the market pays them that much, then so be it. The whole "Patient's Bill of Rights" that Clinton is pushing is avoiding the real issue, just like most of his ideas. We should be working to bring down the cost of health care instead of making it easier for people to sue. Disclaimer : I'll be a money grubbing doctor in 2 1/2 years so my views may be a little biased.-g-
