Paul, I think it is fair to assume that anyone who posts about a specific stock on SI probably has an ax to grind. Joe Battapaglia and his ilk are different in that they are there to sell stocks to customers. Yes, they would prefer to sell the shares of banking customers, but, let's face, Grunt and GroanAll is not much of an IB. They are mostly institutional floggers. They want to prove that they are right on the market to attract orders from institutions for their "research."

Folks here are touting what they already hold or are short or own puts and calls on. Most only buy stocks they like and short those they hate, so they have pretty strong opinions. And sometimes they get very upset when you question their assumptions, whether it be about the quality of reported eps or the competence and honesty of management. They also have long memories.

But not as long a memory as a friend of mine. I called a guy I worked with at Waddell & Reed in 1981 and complimented him on his appearance on CNBS. One of his first comments was, "I see that Waters you liked at Waddell has finally gone up." <G> Except for a brief mention in a private note on SI about the co, I had almost forgotten that I ever followed Waters, among 100 other names, as an analyst.
