I would like to hear more comments about the Permidia3 and the Rage128

Your wish is our command: ve3d.net is an interview with ATI on Rage128. One of the things that caught my eye in the interview was:

Question: Super Scaler Rendering and Twin Cache Architecture, what are these all about??

Answer: Super Scaler Rendering
This is basically a fancy, industry word for Rage 128's Dual rendering pipelines. This technology is "basically" the same of what can be found in the TNT...

I wonder if this means 3Dfx lawers are in for even more money :D

BTW I wish 3Dfx would be at least half as open about their plans and chip specs.

Also, while on the topic of ATI, check this out biz.yahoo.com At only $18 versus $32 for Banshee, I'd be very tempted to go with ATI, if I was an OEM. I am hoping for (a) 3Dfx can have a competing product by Apr 99 (I don't care much about losing one quarter to ATI), (b) Between now and Mar '99 3Dfx's Banshee had better be a screaming (like banshee) sell. This is the time that Banshee has the least competition and is basking in the sunlight, so it will give a good indication of the best case expectation for future similar releases. (c) I hope Rage 128 is similar enough to TNT to get ATI to pay royalties to 3Dfx. And (d) 3Dfx's aliances and marketing program should save them (note this is only a wish/hope which 3Dfx and I share. 3Dfx has made it clear that they do not intend to live and die solely by price/performance paradigme). Rage 128 will also provide a good test as to how successful 3Dfx's efforts to build a barrier to entry really is.
