Hutch,
Your question is a good one and fair, but really hard to respond to from my humble domain. The producers are short for example. But this is the old S and L game in a sense. They have lent long and borrowed short. They will have to roll over, their borrowings. What if gold goes banannas? Not possible? Ask the geniuses who lent to the geniuses at Long Term Capital about that. What if they cannot rollover? The banks could change their mind. The producers of gold could have a problem. They could get squeezed. The producers are covered shorts at the moment, but, eventually, are they?
Then throw in the your basic hedge short specs and jewelry fabricator borrowers.
I am not a detail guy. To me this is a ticking time bomb, and that is why I have a tick, tick, tick to my Midas commentary.
Happy Halloween Mr. H.
