Alastair, Mr. Baillargeon acquitted himself nicely. My guess is he got nailed in the first place because someone saw a report he did, thought it was some sort of objective show about investing, bought the touted security, got burned, and complained to the SEC.

I liken these paid services to lawyers. Their job is not to find the "truth"; their job is put forth their client's version of the truth in the most convincing way possible. For example, if the client says their bottled water cures cancer, then their job is not to independently confirm that, but to play up how wonderful that is. Do you think people would hire Baillargeon's company if they made their client look just mediocre?

Much as a juror would never cast a vote without hearing both sides, an investor should never invest in a company touted in a paid newsletter or TV show without first doing their own due diligence. Calling the company to confirm such material is not, I repeat, is not doing due diligence!

For the sake of investors in PINC, I hope the rosy things written about them by numerous paid entities are true. Time will tell.
