Steve,

Thanks for the explanation. Now onto the next
questions ( easy gear questions for you:-). Don't feel
bashful now, spill out everything you know. I've got
plenty of time to listen and ponder, when it comes to COMS<G>.

>>In my area, cable modems from one company are being SPED UP! from 600kbps to 3Mbps on the 17 of november. How?.. more fiber. The modems just tune to differnt frequency ranges.<<

OK, so we have a long piece of fiber, with both ends connected
with fantastic COMS equipment. Now, we are talking about
changing the frequencies of what's traveling on those lines.
Those lines can be either copper or fiber. Maybe the
transmissions will have various networking protocols? We
are now talking about COMS equipment being able to handle
many situations. In the future, these situations might expand
due to faster speeds, greater bandwidth demands, changes
in protocols, other stuff I have no idea about, etc.

Another words, this equipment needs incredible flexibility
and scalability for the future. Do you think that COMS'
equipment is best suited for this changing environment?
I remember Eric B. saying something about how Total Control
can be upgraded through software and through
use of DSP hardware. Does this make sense? Is this something
unique to COMS?...that may give it a stronger and stronger
proprietary position in relation to the competition? I'm
almost thinking how MSFT has control over the OS, INTC has
control over MPUs (maybe not as much any more).

What do you think?
