hi shlomi,

thanks for the info .. have been wondering if/when clal might be buying more...

expo comm in brazil is coming up this week...tues thru fri.. nov 3 - 6 in sao paulo brazil...and orctf will be there.. maybe we'll get news, but am not holding my breath.. (anyone out there going?).. it would be really interesting to know if orctf is doing any joint demonstations or if anyone else is showing their stuff..

at cebit this year those demoing/showing orctf included Fujitsu, Bosch, Axcent, DT and Lucent... everyone but axcent will apparently be at expocomm.. and lu is the official sponsor..

my guess is that brazil is indeed where most of the current action is for orctf in s. america.. apparently s. america is an etsi product like europe and thus would expect orctf to be competitive south of the border since they seem to be competitive in europe...

q2 cc was:

"did you sell to s. america this qtr?
yes , but not in significant volumes...

this qtr (q3 cc) tune has changed some:

"our main sales are to the us and to europe, but we start to get nice orders to s. america both in hdsl and adsl.."

spent some time looking around to see what was out there and from the website for expo com, a couple of interesting things, first brazil telecommunications looks like boom times... and secondly, all the usual suspects (orctf related) are there..:

"...Market info: the Brazilian Boom of 1998

The Brazilian General Telecommunications Law, the most important legislation in the current drive to open the country's enormous telecommunications sector, has been passed. The first step in this privatization process was the auctioning off of the B-band cellular licenses currently is underway. The second step will occur in the second half of 1998 when the state telecom company, Telebras and Embratel, begin dismantling their monopolies. The Brazilian government announced that it would combine the 27 "Baby-Bras" (local operators) into four or five regional operators who would be sold off along with EMBRATEL. The USDOC predicts that within five years the total market for telecommunications equipment and services will exceed US $75 billion! ..."

and lu is the official sponsor of the show:

"The growth of the telecommunications market in Brazil is an indisputable fact and a huge business opportunity. The arrival of EXPO COMM BRAZIL confirms this market tendency and for this reason Lucent Technologies felt it had to be the official sponsor of the event. We are very satisfied with the excellent contacts we've made during the event." -Virgilio Freire, President of Lucent Technologies Network Systems, Brazil."

also at the show (besides lu): fujitsu and bosch (among many others) ... and "global carriers such as Telecom Italia and Deutsche Telekom." (carriers from above link)

orctf is not on the list... but the orctf website says they are in "Booth #407"... could not find an exhibit hall map... so don't know if they're sharing...

and in the really obscure department there is a short write up on orctf in the krause newsletter (in portuguese)... this seems to be stock stuff... with the exception that dt and telecom italia are mentioned as orctf adsl installations in europe which is interesting in that i would have thought it would be dt and telia... :
